— Gifts, Chocolate, Jewelry and More, Oh My: Valentine-themed activities featured at Carson Mall. Dail. Carson Mall, 1223 South Carson Street, in Carson City will host a series of Valentine events, Feb. 12-16, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The mall will feature vendors, free Valentine Photos by Magical Moments, and chocolate dipped strawberries. From Feb. 12 through Feb. 14, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., visit inside the mall and make a Valentine for a loved one. Then, make another Valentine for a Senior that will be delivered to local retirement homes. On Feb. 15 Carson Mall will host Family Bingo Night. Proceeds will benefit Carson High School’s Safe and Sober Grad Night. Carson Host Lions will be selling truffles and other candies for your sweetheart. Scroll and click on the fliers for details. — Dayton Chamber hosts Feb. 12 Breakfast Networking Event. 7:30 a.m. Join us for our first breakfast meeting of the year at Dayton Valley Golf Club featuring president and founder of the Desert Pigs, Phil Wooley. The Desert Pigs are a regional all-volunteer group who venture out into the surrounding desert and pick up the mountains of trash left by irresponsible parties. — Capital City Arts Initiative to present 'Impact' exhibition featuring Lake Tahoe artist Paula Chung. Daily through May 28. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition "Impact" by artist Paula Chung at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The exhibition will be in the gallery through May 28, 2020. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The reception and the exhibition are free and the public is cordially invited. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Paula Chung’s Impact works address violence on sports fields, battlefields, and the streets. Through the use of medical imagery, she illustrates how violence affects us all.
— Capital City Arts Initiative presents 'Photo Finished 2020' exhibition. Daily. The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Photo Finished 2020, at the Community Development Building, the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Nine students from Carson High School’s Advanced Photography program have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public through March 26, 2020, Mondays - Fridays, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. The Carson High students include Jackie Garza, Ansley Griffin, Karla Herrera, Meagan Kiesow, Kayee Konze, Kailee Luschar, Vanessa Martinez, Haley Trost, and Valerie Wamsley. The artists are all students in Kara Ferrin’s Advanced Photography class.
— Nevada Artists Association New Year's Show. NAA presents it's New Year's Show with 124 entries by member artists. Additionally, water colorist, Melanie Walters and potter, Nancy Brownrigg are our Featured Artists and have their exhibits on the back wall of the Gallery. These shows run through Feb. 14. The Gallery is located at 449 W. King Street and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday, except Monday. — Open Studio Painting at the Brewery Arts Center. 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Work on your own paintings from subject matter you chose for yourself. The instructor will provide one on one instruction throughout the class. Students may use oil, acrylic, or watercolor paint. Dry media is also welcome. Bring your own supplies and source materials (such as photographs or drawings you wish to paint). This in an open enrollment drop in class so there is no need to enroll in advance. — Carson City CASA to host Volunteer Information Hour. A Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a trained volunteer appointed by a judge to speak up for the best interests of children in foster care. CASA Volunteers are Everyday Heroes who come from all walks of life and serve as the eyes and ears of the Court. CASA of Carson City is looking for new volunteers to work with our youth currently in foster care. Please join us for a brief Information Hour, Meet and Greet where you can come speak with active CASAs and the Executive Director. Tour our building and see how we serve our youth in foster care through our Foster Kid's Closet, supplying school supplies and other items to support children in need. Bring a friend! — Seeking Safety workshops continue Wednesdays through March. 5:30 p.m. A 12-week public workshop called Seeking Safety meet Wednesdays through March 25. Seeking Safety is an evidence-based curriculum gained at helping women develop skills to keep themselves out of unsafe relationships and avoid self-abuse of drugs or alcohol. The workshops are open to women and participants are encouraged to attend any of them. The workshops are facilitated by licensed counselors. The workshops are offered by counselors through the Community Counseling Center that received special training paid for by a grant through Carson City Health and Human Services. Workshops will be held 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays, in the meeting room at Salvation Army, 911 East Second Street, Carson City. — Carson City School District to host meeting over proposed middle school zone modification. With anticipation of the modification to middle school attendance zones within the Carson City School District, district officials and administrators are inviting parents and families to attend one of three meetings to discuss the intricacies of the rezoning as well as variance options for families with older siblings already attending a specific middle school. The first forum is at Eagle Valley Middle School: Wednesday, February 12, 6:00 p.m. in the gym. There will also be a meeting on Thursday at Carson Middle School, also at 6:00 p.m., in the library and again on Feb. 27, at Fremont Elementary School, 5:30 p.m. in the library.
— Carson City meet and greet Wednesday with presidential candidate Tom Steyer. Democratic Presidential candidate Tom Steyer will visit Carson City this Wednesday, Feb. 12 and open a William Street office. — Salsa Group Class in Downtown Carson City. 7 p.m. Every Wednesday at 7 pm join us to learn the popular dance of Salsa! Cost is $10 per person.
