Events around Carson City for Monday, Presidents' Day

Heading into Monday, Presidents' Day, we're looking at sunny skies and a high near 55. Being a federal holiday, local, state and federal offices are closed, as are schools and banks. Activities include a meeting of Carson City AGLOW International at the Children's Museum, a campaign rally featuring presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, a meeting of the Carson City Democrats focusing on Saturday's Nevada caucus, fitness events, West Coast swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

Capital City Arts Initiative to present 'Impact' exhibition featuring Lake Tahoe artist Paula Chung. Daily through May 28. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition "Impact" by artist Paula Chung at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The exhibition will be in the gallery from Feb. 7 through May 28, 2020. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The reception and the exhibition are free and the public is cordially invited. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Paula Chung’s Impact works address violence on sports fields, battlefields, and the streets. Through the use of medical imagery, she illustrates how violence affects us all.

Capital City Arts Initiative presents 'Photo Finished 2020' exhibition. Daily. The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Photo Finished 2020, at the Community Development Building, the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Nine students from Carson High School’s Advanced Photography program have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public through March 26, 2020, Mondays - Fridays, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. The Carson High students include Jackie Garza, Ansley Griffin, Karla Herrera, Meagan Kiesow, Kayee Konze, Kailee Luschar, Vanessa Martinez, Haley Trost, and Valerie Wamsley. The artists are all students in Kara Ferrin’s Advanced Photography class.

Open studio basic painting at the Brewery Arts Center. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King Street. Students will work on their own paintings from subject matter they have chosen. The instructor, Mark Tompkins, will work one-on-one with each student to help them complete their project from start to finish. Each student must supply their own materials. Students may choose to paint in either water colors, oils, or acrylic paints.

Presidential Candidate Pete Buttigieg to host Town Hall Monday in Carson City. 11:30 a.m. Presidential Candidate Pete Buttigieg will be hosting a Town Hall Monday in Carson City to discuss his campaign and answer questions from the public. This is one of three stops Buttigieg is making within the silver state, including Sparks and Elko. He will be at Western Nevada College, 2201 W. College Parkway on Monday, Feb. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Caucus updates the topic at Carson City Democratic luncheon. 11:30 a.m. In reaction to problems encountered in Iowa, the Nevada State Democratic Party has made significant changes to how their presidential precinct caucuses will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 22, as well as at the early voting sites through Tuesday the 18th. Those revised procedures will be the topic at the next Democratic luncheon. This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, at the Carson City Round Table Pizza, 3325 Retail Drive just off College Parkway. Sponsored by the Democratic Men's Committee, these luncheons help keep the lights on at Carson City's Democratic HQ. An all-you-can-eat pizza and salad bar lunch buffet is available for $7.99, 10 percent discount for seniors. Water is free, extra charge for fountain drinks. Monday night throwing class at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 1215 S. Carson Street. Drop in sessions are $45 or $175 for a 6 week, open start class, including open studio anytime during the 6 weeks. West Coast Swing Dance. 5:30 to 10 p.m. at the Carson Lanes Family Fun Center, 4600 Snyder Ave. Join the High Sierra Swing Club every Monday for a night filled with West Coast Swing dancing! Beginners class at 5:30 followed by an Intermediate class at 6:30, $8 each. Free social dance following lessons from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

Game Night & Open Meeting, Carson Assembly 7 of Rainbow Girls. Join us for an Open Meeting and Game Night. Bring a Rainbow aged (ages 8-20) friend (or more than one) and a game to share/play. The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls is a youth service organization for girls between the ages of 11 –20, established in 1922. Girls gain self-confidence, self-respect, learn leadership skills and provide service to the community.
